IU Auditorium announces its 2007-2008 season

The 2007-2008 season at IU Auditorium is set and will be exciting from start to finish. The upcoming season includes an exciting mix of comedy, musicals, dance and family friendly events. With 15 events and 23 performances, the IU Auditorium season has been developed with today's audiences in mind.

"We've mixed tradition with imagination, classic with contemporary, while enhancing the world-class programming quality that our audience expects," explained Doug Booher, director of IU Auditorium.

The new season will be ushered in with comedian Dennis Miller performing on Sept. 14 at 8 p.m. Other exciting events of the 2007-2008 season include a variety of crowd pleasers, such as Evita, Movin' Out, Riverdance and David Sedaris.

Other IU Auditorium season highlights include RENT, STOMP, Irvin Mayfield and The New Orleans Jazz Orchestra, The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards and the Band of the Coldstream Guard, and violinist Hilary Hahn. Everyone in the family will enjoy Annie, Chimes of Christmas, the Dooblebops and the Nai-NiChen Dance Company.

"Our audiences and the community look to IU Auditorium to bring in the biggest and the best shows available," said Booher. "It's incredibly exciting to bring in shows like Evita and Riverdance, knowing that the audiences will be wowed by the performances. We invite everyone to be a part of the 2007-2008 season and discover the magic of seeing a performance live at IU Auditorium."

The IU Auditorium continues the popular ordering process that allows people to preorder tickets before they go on sale to the general public, even if they aren't a subscriber. This ensures they get some of the best seats available. Tickets are available online and by mail-order. The priority seating deadline is May 16, 2007.

DENNIS MILLER
Friday, Sept. 14, 8 p.m.

Miller is a five-time Emmy award winner for his critically acclaimed half-hour, live talk show Dennis Miller Live which had a nine-year run on HBO. He also wrote and starred in the Emmy-nominated cable comedy special Raw Feed, his sixth such special. He was the host and executive producer of CNBC's Dennis Miller, a topical interview talk show featuring reasoned discourse, opinion and humor. Additionally, Miller has appeared on many politically-oriented television talk shows and recently kicked off his new syndicated radio program.

ANNIE
Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 9 AND 10, 7 p.m.

Annie isthe Broadway smash that leapt from the comic pages and into the hearts of millions the world over. The beloved family-friendly musical follows the journey of the title character Little Orphan Annie as she escapes the orphanage on a quest to find her parents. With her beloved canine companion Sandy in tow, Annie outwits crooks and criminals, eventually thawing the cold heart of Oliver "Daddy" Warbucks and finding the family she always desired. The Tony Award-winning musical is a delight for all ages with a cast of colorful characters and equally colorful songs that have become as beloved as the ginger-headed scamp herself. With memorable songs including Hard Knock Life and Tomorrow, and two nights to catch it, Annie is a show not to be missed.

DAVID SEDARIS
Tuesday, Oct. 16, 8 p.m.

Sedaris, a regular contributor to The New Yorker, Esquire, as well as his collection of essays -- Naked, Me Talk Pretty One Day, and Dress Your Family In Corduroy and Denim, has made himself a permanent fixture on the literary charts. Sedaris' sardonic humor and self-reflexive tales of awkwardness have made him one of America's comedic treasures. Sedaris is frequently heard on This American Life and in 2001 received the Thurber Prize for American Humor and was named "Time" humorist of the year. An evening with Sedaris is an evening full of the dry wit and humorous tales that have filled sold-out theatres from coast-to-coast.

DENNIS JAMES
Wednesday, Oct. 31, 8 p.m.

Spend a night of devilish delights at IU Auditorium this Halloween with Dennis James and The Cat and the Canary. James is the world-renowned organist who has breathed new life into the silent film era taking his accompaniments to theatres and movie houses across the globe. The silent classic The Cat and the Canary is the blueprint for the haunted house thriller. A greedy family brought together to hear a rich uncle's will, human frailty, and eerie circumstance provide a white-knuckle ride of cinematic creepiness. James' performances have been an IU Auditorium tradition for decades, delighting audiences young and old.

HILARY HAHN
Saturday, Nov. 3, 8 p.m.

Still shy of her 30th birthday, Hilary Hahn has emerged as one of the most compelling concert violinists in the world today. Named by "Time" magazine as America's best young classical musician in 2001, Hahn's maturity, impeccable phrasing, and immaculate technique have garnered her a Grammy Award and have earned her the right to play with the world's most acclaimed orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra and New York Philharmonic.

RENT
Tuesday and Wednesday, Nov. 13 and 14, 8 p.m.

Rent, the Broadway sensation that defined a generation, brings to IU Auditorium the laughter, tears and songs beloved by millions. The Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical is the story of a group of young artists learning to survive in and make their way on the rough streets of New York City. Rent is about falling in love, finding your voice and living your life for the moment.

NAI-NI CHEN DANCE COMPANY
Thursday, Nov. 15, 8 p.m.

East meets west when the Nai-Ni-Chen Dance Company comes to IU Auditorium. The Nai-Ni-Chen combines the dynamic freedom of American modern dance, with the grace and splendor of Chinese traditional dance, to create works of stunning beauty. Nai-Ni Chen is a choreographer whose fusion of dance aesthetics continues to break the boundaries of contemporary dance and has been featured in the world's great performance halls.

CHIMES OF CHRISTMAS
Wednesday, Dec. 12, 7:30 p.m.

The bells will be ringing when the Chimes of Christmas comes caroling to IU Auditorium. This holiday tradition features some of the best the IU Jacobs School of Music has to offer with performances from the IU Wind Ensemble, Trombone Choir and the Grammy-nominated Singing Hoosiers. This event is a cavalcade of sights and sounds await, so gather the family and celebrate the season with IU Auditorium.

DOODLEBOPS LIVE!
Friday, Jan. 18, 4 P.M. AND 7 p.m.

Get ready to rock along with the Doodlebops in their live U.S. concert tour! Straight from their hit TV show on Playhouse Disney, Deedee, Rooney and Moe Doodle are ready to sing and dance in their interactive concert experience that will have kids and their parents rockin' and boppin' together! The live action series produced by Cookie Jar Entertainment and airing on the Disney Channel, features the three fun-loving band mates who live out their daily lives as the biggest phenomena in kids' pop music, sharing positive messages through their high-energy show. This candy-colored trio is sure to deliver an unforgettable performance that will be a treat for the whole family.

THE ROYAL SCOTS DRAGOON GUARDS & THE BAND OF THE COLDSTREAM GUARDS
Thursday, Jan. 31, 8 p.m.

Take a trip to the Scottish Highlands when The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards and The Band of the Coldstream Guards come to IU Auditorium. The group performs adorned in full dress uniform, complete with kilt and bearskin cap. The Band of the Coldstream Guards are the pride of the British Army, playing the music of Scotland, Ireland, England and Wales. The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards are an amalgamation of the 3rd Carbiniers and The Royal Scots Greys. Combined, they are Scotland's only cavalry brigade. The Band of the Coldstream Guards have been musical ambassadors on the field and on the stage for two-and-a-half centuries.

STOMP
Tuesday and Wednesday, Feb. 5 and 6, 8 p.m.

Feel the rhythm when Stomp pounds its way onto IU Auditorium's stage. The musical phenomenon is a toe-tapping, fist- pounding, finger-snapping, body-moving, feast for the senses. Stomp was born out of the United Kingdom's street performing buskers who made music by any means necessary. Using broomsticks, lighters, matchboxes, their own bodies, and anything else that comes their way, the members of Stomp will have you dancing in your seat.

Evita

Friday and Saturday, Feb. 29 and March 1, 8 p.m.

The story of the larger-than-life Evita Peron is brought to life when the Tony Award-winning musical Evita comes to IU Auditorium. Featuring the dynamic songs of Andrew Lloyd Weber and Tim Rice, Evita is full of the passion and pageantry that made the real-life Evita Peron a global icon. With breathtaking dancing and memorable songs, including Don't Cry for Me, Argentina and Buenos Aires, all set against a backdrop of political and social revolution, Evita is a tour de force.

MOVIN' OUT
Tuesday and Wednesday, April 1 and 2, 8 p.m.

An instant classic and Broadway smash, Movin' Out is movin' onto the IU Auditorium stage in April. Bringing together the talents of legendary Broadway choreographer and Indiana native, Twyla Tharp -- with the songs of five-time Grammy-award winner -- Billy Joel, Movin' Out is a righteous journey through America's adolescence. Movin' Out follows the loves and lives of a group of friends growing up in Long Island in the 1960s set to the classic Billy Joel songs you know and love. Featuring captivating dancing, eye-popping sets and an endless parade of Billy Joel hits including Scenes From An Italian Restaurant, The Stranger, Uptown Girl and Only the Good Die Young.

RIVERDANCE
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, April 8, 9, and 10, 7:30 p.m.

Riverdance, the foot-stomping sensation that is sweeping the world will soon set the IU Auditorium stage on fire. The show is a celebration of the music and spirit of the emerald isle with a breathtaking display of dancing, music and song. Drawing on Irish traditions and the combined talents of the performers, Riverdance propels Irish dancing and music to the present day, capturing the imagination of audiences across all ages and cultures. Share the magic and passion of Riverdance with your family.

IRVIN MAYFIELD AND THE NEW ORLEANS JAZZ ORCHESTRA
Saturday, April 26, 8 p.m.

Straight from the smoke-filled clubs and backwater jook joints of New Orleans, Irvin Mayfield and the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra are bringing the gift of jazz to Bloomington. This 16-piece orchestra celebrates the musical heroes of the "Big Easy" playing the timeless tunes of Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Martin, Professor Longhair, and those who laid the groundwork for America's true great art form. The New Orleans Jazz Orchestra's program, New Orleans Then and Now, is a lively exploration of jazz -- from its raucous New Orleans birth to its present-day popularity throughout the world. Come bear witness to the story of a city through the eyes, ears and horns of its sons and daughters.
