A "major announcement" involving former Sen. Richard Lugar and the IndianaUniversity Center on Congress will be made Thursday afternoon, according to an IU news release.
The release says President Michael A. McRobbie will be joined by Lugar and former Congressman Lee Hamilton, director of the IU center.
The news event will be 1:30 p.m.-2:15 p.m. at the IU Lilly Library. While seating will be limited, the release says, "All members of the IU community and the general public are invited to view the address in person or via live stream broadcasting at broadcast.iu.edu, where it will be archived for later viewing."
It had been announced previously that the former senator would join the German Marshall Fund of the United States as a senior trans-Atlantic fellow when he left office this month. The Marshall Fund also will launch a new Richard G. Lugar Institute for Diplomacy.
Lugar also is starting an internship program with the University of Indianapolis that will operate out of Washington, D.C. And he also will deliver lectures each year as a distinguished professor at the university.
