
Chris Enstrom has been named the new director of the Indiana University Bloomington 21st Century Scholars Program. As director, Enstrom will be responsible for developing programs, services, workshops and events designed to help more than 1,000 21st Century Scholars on the IU Bloomington campus succeed and reach their fullest academic potential.

The Midwest Proton Radiotherapy Institute (MPRI) board of directors announced the programmatic incorporation of MPRI into the Indiana University Melvin and Bren Simon Cancer Center (IUSCC) and the IUSM Department of Radiation Oncology. The MPRI board of directors appointed Dr. Peter Johnstone, chair and William A. Mitchell Professor, IUSM Department of Radiation Oncology, president and chief executive officer of MPRI. Richard Helsper, vice president of operations for Clarian Health, was named chief operating officer.

Lifelong Learning Week, a celebration of adult education opportunities in Bloomington, will be observed Sept. 8-11. Sponsored by the Bloomington Lifelong Learning Coalition and the City of Bloomington Office of the Mayor, events will include a variety of free courses, workshops and lectures and will be open to the public. Indiana University Bloomington Continuing Studies is a participating member and its executive director, Ron White, is chairman of the BLLC.

Overall youth drug use by sixth through 12th graders in Indiana is down, according to the latest annual survey by the Indiana Prevention Resource Center (IPRC) at Indiana University Bloomington's School of Health, Physical Education and Recreation. IPRC Director Ruth Gassman said the survey results can help communities with needs assessments, planning prevention programs, evaluation of initiatives and assembling grant applications.

McConahay, senior associate registrar at Indiana University in Bloomington, recently was appointed by the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO) as technology conference director. McConahay is a regular presenter on topics relating to student services and the implementation of administrative information technology.

More than 200 experts who study indigenous languages spoken in Latin America will come to Indiana University's Bloomington campus today (August 14) through Saturday for the first biennial Symposium on Teaching Indigenous Languages of Latin America or STILLA.
