International Programs
Twenty-two secondary math teachers are in the middle of a four-week mathematics education training program at the Indiana University School of Education. This is the third year the IU School of Education has won a grant from South Korea's Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education to host the teachers. It's part of a program the government in Korea sponsors to send math and science teachers across the United States to learn different teaching methods.

University Dean Emeritus of the IU School of Education Donald Warren will speak at four Chinese universities during a two-week trip that will take him and his wife Beverly across the country. Appearing at the invitation of Chinese educators, Warren will speak about American higher education at Peking University and Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics in Beijing, as well as at Yunnan Nationalities University in Kunming and Nanchang Hangkong University in Jiangxi Province.

Most of the proceeds from Saturday's "Comedy Caravan" at Bear's Place in Bloomington will go toward supporting Indiana University School of Education students participating in the second International School Psychology Practicum in Guatemala this summer.

At a U.S. State Department conference Wednesday (Jan. 10) in Washington, D.C., Indiana University President Adam W. Herbert will make a presentation on the growing role major American universities are playing in this nation's public diplomacy initiatives. Herbert's remarks will come during a day-long "Private Sector Summit on Public Diplomacy" for some 150 senior corporate executives, leaders of non-profits and government officials.

Former U.S. Poet Laureate Robert Pinsky will present a talk and reading at Indiana University Bloomington on Oct. 26 at 4:30 p.m. at Whittenberger Auditorium in the Indiana Memorial Union. He is one of three former U.S. Poet Laureates who will visit the campus in the coming months as part of a series on the topic of "Solitude."

A scathingly funny comedy by dissident Czech playwright turned president Václav Havel is the focus of an upcoming campus-community collaboration. On Oct. 19, Indiana University's Office of International Programs and its Russian and East European Institute (REEI) will join forces with Bloomington's Cardinal Stage Company to present Havel's Obie Award-winning comedy Unveiling.
